What would you do if you discover a treasure chest filled with gold ornaments and coins ?That sounds great right !!But what  would you do if you discover a treasury filled with gold and other valuable assets ?!
Sounds impossible right !!Though there are a lot of tales and legends about many personalities in our ancient history who went on an expedition to find treasures across various parts of the world .But not all seemed successful  .But here , you are going to read about a city which is covered with gold all over the place and even the sand would carry gold .The prominent "El Dorado -The lost city of Gold" .




   During the early 16th century ,great men started expedition to the city of gold claimed to exist in present day -South America .Though they were unsuccessful and most of them could not  make it alive , expeditions in search of the affluent city still continued ,headed by the most promising people around the globe .

This extremely wealthy empire accommodating a native tribe  along the Mayans ,Inca and Aztecs ( well known Ancient American civilization ) was found in the Andre mountains which is presently Columbia .The existence of this kingdom covered with gold was first coined by Juan Martinez on his deathbed.He was the  captain of munition for a Spanish adventurer.During an expedition to a distant  land ,Juan Martinez allowed a store of gunpowder to catch fire which ended up in condemning him to death .However ,his friends helped him escape on a small boat .The tides brought him to a distinct land on the same evening where he was discovered by a group of people who then took him to their kingdom blindfolded.The journey was 15 days and he could barely see the days pass .He was brought to the kingdom of Manoa ,where he witnessed an unimaginable civilization covered with gold ornaments moreover the palace was made out of gold stones .This made him astonishing and unbelievable at the same time .On noticing him being a Christian by the Inga (King) ,he was given an exceptional hospitality.After being there  for 3months he chose to return to his country .He was well treated by the people and was brought back to start his expedition to Spain .
After an allegation by the country's trust worthy and we'll educated man,led to many expeditions by the conquistadors.One of which led to the discovery of golden river in Amazon .On enquiring the neighboring tribes to have settled there ,it was claimed that the gold depositions were from the body of the to-be-king who is covered with gold .It was explained that it is a ritual of the people conducted while the heir is crowned to take over the throne.
In this ritual the heir is let into the jungle alone where he has to take care of himself and fight the odds during his stay against all the wild animals and other life threatening situations.Only on the win against all these ,he is qualified to be given the throne .On his return ,the ritual is conducted where in he is covered with gold sand and thrown all the gold stones and ornaments considered to be of great value and as a part of the rite .He is then sent into the water after which he is believed to have washed away all his sons and considered to be pure .The gold that flows in the river is from this lake  Guatavita ,that the emperor has taken bath in .And "El Dorado " refers to the "the person covered with gold "  

   After all the conquistadors who continued the journey ended up in death anonymously.This is believed that the exploration to the kingdom is suicidal.Even after a century,the Europeans fascinated about the modern world ,were Keen to discover the golden kingdom and a number of expeditions were recorded all of which ended up in failure .Though it is not visually or documentary evident ,there are many discoveries relating to the argument of the existence of such city underneath the ancient grounds located in the Northern South American grounds .The architectural structures of the ancient American civilization such as Mayans ,Aztecs also contribute to the existence of the kingdom of Manoa and the person covered in gold -The El Dorado .
